2006 - An Album Retrospect

I did this last year, so I thought I'd make it an annual thing. All of my purchases throughout the year, with a short little review. In alphabetical order, as I trying to figure out exactly when I bought all of the albums would prove extremely difficult.

Back to Basics
I still stand by my statement that disc two is the better one off this album, and that The Right Man blows the rest out of the water. Granted, I have only listened to the first disc two (and a half) times. Maybe I should give it another chance?

Unwritten
Wow, I can't believe I only bought this album in 2006. It seems like I've had it for longer. Maybe because of all of the constant plays I gave it. This is definitely one of the few albums I can listen to all the way through, without skipping a single track.

Thankful
Being a fan of Ms Clarkson since the days of American Idol, I don't know why I never picked this up. Granted, it doesn't have the same greatness that her sophomoric album has, but there are some little gems hidden in here as well. I finally decided to give into temptation and buy it.

The Open Door
Album of the year! Definitely the album of the year. I listened to this album everyday for at least a month. The first couple rotations weren't really that great, but I warmed up to a new song with each one. As of right now, I can't even pick a favorite anymore. I love them all.

Live Trucker
I wish a DVD was included with this album. As much as I dislike live DVDs, this one I probably would have made an exception for. The only track I dislike on the album would have to be the duet with Gretchen Wilson. And I liked every Gretchen Wilson song I heard before that one. It's not the lack of Sheryl either, because I've heard it sung with other people and I'm fine with it. I just don't like it when Gretchen sings that song.

The Killers - Sam's Town
The runner up for album of the year in my book. Like The Open Door, this album took some getting used to as well. It also helps that listening to Sam's Town gives me warm memories of the Virgin Festival back in September.

Lady Sovereign - Public Warning
I first heard her while channel surfing and stopped on MTV (OMG MTV PLAYED MUSIC~!). The first time hearing her didn't really reel me in, but I thought it was better than what they normally air. The second time however, hooked me. By now it's worn off a bit, but the album is still pretty good.

A Little More Personal (Raw)
The main reason I bought this album was because Ben Moody worked on two of the tracks. Although, with the second being a cover, I only knew about the one at the time. My favorite track on the album would have to be the Stevie Nick's cover, Edge of Seventeen. Which just happens to be one of the two songs Ben worked on.

Tonight Not Again/Live at Eagles Ballroom
I just got this for Christmas and haven't watched the DVD yet, so I can't really say much about the album.

Mr. A-Z
The main reason I bought this album was because I was addicted to Geek in the Pink. But the rest of the album isn't that bad either.

Silver Side Up / The Long Road
I finally got around to buying these two. Both (mostly the first one) came out during my big Yahoo Launchcast phase, so I wasn't really buying CDs. Someday (no pun intended) I'll end up getting all those albums during that time. Probably not anytime soon though.

Far Away
I got this for Christmas. The only single I own and one of three that I've ever seen in stores around here.

Tragic Kingdom
I had heard some of the old No Doubt songs and own the greatest hits collection, but this album really made me fall in love with the band. Particularly, The Climb. Now whenever I hear a new Gwen Stefani song, I put on this album and realize that there was a time when her music wasn't annoying.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers
The final album to my Red Hot Chili Peppers studio album collection.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Best of Red Hot Chili Peppers
I got this for Christmas. It's still in the shrink wrap because it's just What Hits!? with less songs.

Live in Hyde Park
I got this for Christmas as well. I've only listened to the whole thing once, so I can't really give it justice right now.

Stadium Arcadium
In the top three for album of the year. The best track off the album has to be Storm in a Teacup.

Jessica Simpson - A Public Affair
I kinda wore out the title track before the album was fresh in my hands. I still have trouble sitting through it to this day. The rest of the album however, is great. I love her cover of You Spin Me Round (Like a Record).

Wolfmother
When I first heard them, I only liked one song. Then, after watching them perform at the Virgin Festival, they really grew on me.

"Weird Al" Yankovic - Straight Outta Lynwood
Great album. My favorite track would have to be I'll Sue Ya.

Various Artists - WWE Wreckless Intent
Of course I had to buy this album. I get to sing my own personalized lyrics to Burn in My Light whenever I want. And the other tracks aren't bad either.

Top 3 Albums of 2006
1. Evanescence - The Open Door
2. The Killers - Sam's Town
3. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium
