List your favorite record from every year you’ve been alive.

1980 - The Wall - Pink Floyd
Obviously not into it at the time, but in junior high, my "The Wall" t-shirt was like OMGeeZ my favorite
1981 - Moving Pictures - Rush
I suppose it's impressive that "Tom Sawyer" was still getting such strong radio play, 10 years later when I got into this album.
1983 - War - U2
Say what you like about U2 now, this is one of the best albums of the decade.
1984 - 1984 - Van Halen
I do remember liking "Jump" when i was lilttle, but after the fact it became my favorite VH album.
1985 - No Jacket Required - Phil Collins
What can I say? when I was 5-6, I loved me some Genesis/Phil Collins. I still love Peter Gabriel-era Genesis, but Invisible Touch, not so much.
1986 - Master of Puppets - Metallica
It wasn't until the black album came out that I properly apprecieted Metallica
1987 - Appetite For Destruction - GNR
1988 - Operation: Mindcrime - Queensryche
1989 - Full Moon Fever - Tom Petty
I played the cassette of this album to death
1990 - Empire - Queensryche
This is probably the first album here that accurately represents a shift in my musical tastes. That shift being, listening to things my parents weren't into.
1991 - Metallica
1992 - Countdown to Extinction - Megadeth
I still can't "really hear" these albums. Most of my memories of junior high are choreographed to one of the two.
1993 - Undertow - Tool
Man, I think every notebook I had included the lyrics to "Sober" somewhere in them.
1994 - The Downward Spiral - NIN
Didn't get into this at the time, since I was still listening to the rock/classic rock radio stations, didn't have MTV, and none of my friends were into them. I bought "Further Down The Spiral" on a $4 whim, and was permanently hooked.
1995 - Alice in Chains
This, along with the previous NIN album, were the foundation of my "hidden" CD collection, that I kept in a little metal box my parents didn't know about. I think they even found it at one point, and I rebuilt it.
1996 - Down on the Upside - Soundgarden -
This was the one album that all my friend groups were into at the time. AIC and Soundgarden were 2 of the few grunge bands I liked, not just tolerated.
1997 - S.C.I.E.N.C.E. - Incubus
This was the start of inverted_e infecting my tastes, albeit a year later.
1998 - From the Choirgirl Hotel - Tori Amos
I liked this album when it came out, but it wasn't until I gave up on religion near the end of the year that I started appreciating her backcatalog.
1999 - Point #1 - Chevelle
I really miss Chevelle sounding like this. Also, they're the only popular band I actually hung out with. (Showoff doesn't exist anymore, otherwise Magoo would count)
2000 - White Pony - Deftones/Mer De Noms - A Perfect Circle
It would be impossible for me to think of these 2 albums seperately. The Fragile was part of the same summer as well, but it was actually released before the end of '99. I didn't get into it right away.
2001 - Drukqs - Aphex Twin
The start of music influenced by ben, although pretty much everyone fell for Aphex Twin when I showed it to them.
2002 - Oceanic - Isis
Indie rock took over my library, but Isis was the first band I was into that my friends weren't.
2003 - The Ugly Organ - Cursive
2004 - Funeral - The Arcade Fire
I've loved dense, dark progressive rock since I was a little kid and my dad introduced me to Pink Floyd, but this was the first stuff outside of metal that really grabbed me in a long time. It's also the first that I really found music outside of the radio or friends.
2005 - Catch Without Arms - Dredg
I didn't get into their first two albums until after the fact, so although this is the weakest of their 3, it's the one that I eagerly awaited.
2006 - Mr. Beast - Mogwai
At the time, I listed In Flames as my album of the year, but Mr. Beast is my go-to work album.
2007 - The Second Philosophy - Nahemah
Given what a crappy year 2007 turned out to be, I assumed that my refounded metal obsession would be a phase, to be replaced by happier music in happier times. Making this list, it looks more like indie rock is the abberation.
2008 - Feel Good Ghosts - Cloud Cult
There are a lot of dense, layered, progressive metal albums this year, but Cloud Cult's better without being metal. Thus far.
