As always, December 31 is a good day to list my favorite records of the year. I think musically 2008 was a nice year. Maybe not spectacular, but I've added quite a few records to my collections.

Of course, I haven't heard everything that was released this year, but so far, these 10 are my favorite:

Just outside the top 10 are Jude, Headless Heroes, Marah, John Mayer, Jakob Dylan, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Levellers and Shearwater.

For me, however, 2008 was not only a year of new music, but just as much a year of (re)discovering older music. Therefore, here's an alternative list with my '10 favorite records of 2008'…
