My ten favourite (by now) album closers. Not in order, by the way.

01. over now
Artist: Alice In Chains
Album: Alice In Chains (1995)
"Good night, it's over now". The band's struggle against Layne Staley's drug addiction found it's perfect vehicle on their music. But like they said, it's over now. The lyrics are self elucidative.

02. a day in the life
Artist: The Beatles
Album: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967)
A perfect ending to a perfect album. Sgt. Pepper's climax and upshot combined in one song.

03. the end
Artist: The Beatles
Album: Abbey Road (1969)
McCartney said: "in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make". Wise words for one of the last songs ever recorded by the Fab Four. Proper title.

04. Love, Reign O'er Me
Artist: The Who
Album: Quadrophenia (1973)
Pete Townshend finishes his so called rock opera with his last shot: a final and glorious scene that overcast the rest of the album. Brilliant.

05. death is not the end
Artist: Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds
Album: Murder Ballads (1996)
The Bad Seeds brought together old friends to sing this optimistic apotheosis after the blood bath presented in the album. Sounds like fun.

06. from the morning
Artist: Nick Drake
Album: Pink Moon (1972)
Nick Drake's epitaph. Still, he's everywhere.

07. hurt
Artist: Nine Inch Nails
Album: The Downward Spiral (1994)
Trent Reznor's true confessions. You can even feel his pain. Johnny Cash once said this is the greatest song about drug addiction he ever heard. I guess he was right.

08. where did you sleep last night
Artist: Nirvana
Album: MTV Unplugged In New York
Kurdt's last goodbye. He always knew what he was doing.

09. glory box
Artist: Portishead
Album: Dummy (1994)
A relaxing bass-driven song that can provide the listener moments of smooth serenity. And also, Beth Gibbons' voice can really drive you crazy.

10. i think i lost my headache
Artist: Queens Of The Stone Age
Album: Rated R (2000)
If the second Queens Of The Stone Age's album is a reunion of stoner hymns, this is certainly the hangover. It can echo in your head for hours.
