My Top 5 Albums of 1981

1981

5: Van Halen - Fair Warning

Awesome album by Eddie and the boys. The best song on here is probably the opening track, "Mean Street". Also features the classics "So This Is Love?", "Hear About It Later" and "Unchained". Like all Van Halen albums, this is a great one to crank up in your car.

4: Journey - Escape

Wow, when you think about it, this was a year of some great classic albums! This is probably the #1 must-have Journey album. Everyone loves "Open Arms" and "Don't Stop Believin'", right? "Stone In Love" and "Who's Cryin' Now" are also on this one. If you know anyone who still owns an LP collection from their youth in the 80s, they most likely have this.

3: Prince - Controversy

Although I've always liked Prince since around 1984 when I remember first discovering pop music, I admit I was not familiar with a lot of his work until I met my husband. If you are like I was, and don't know much of his early stuff before Purple Rain, get this album! Every track is great, especially the title track, "Sexuality" and "Jack U Off".

2: Motley Crue - Too Fast For Love
http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/7e/aa/90e34310fca0dc5e5b784010._AA240_.L.jpg
The Crue's debut. Love it! This is raw, unpolished rock and roll. Yet still a bit of an idea of what was yet to come. It features one of my favorite Motley Crue songs "Piece Of Your Action", the title track, "Live Wire" and "Come on and Dance". Great stuff!

1: Stevie Nicks - Bella Donna
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/416H0NASDDL._SL500_AA240_.jpg
What can I say about this wonderful album? It's one of my favorites of all-time by anyone. I can't believe it took me until 1994 to discover it. I think I bought a best-of of Stevie first, then decided to get this one. Then I was hooked. Every track is superb, and even if you're not a Stevie fan, you probably know most of these - "Edge of Seventeen", "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around", "Leather And Lace", and "After The Glitter Fades". And if you've ever seen Stevie live, you know "Outside The Rain" because she's opened with it for years. My personal favorite is "Think About It", probably because it wasn't a hit, and I think that's what people tend to do with their favorite artists; they love the lesser-known songs like they're their babies.

Honorable mentions: ABBA - The Visitors, Billy Joel - Songs In The Attic, Billy Squier - Don't Say No, Heavy Metal Soundtrack, Def Leppard - High N' Dry, KISS - Music From The Elder, Loverboy - Get Lucky, Pat Benatar - Precious Time, Rick Springfield - Working Class Dog, Rolling Stones - Tattoo You, Styx - Paradise Theater, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Hard Promises
