My goal every year is to get my hands on as many albums from as many different genres as possible, review them, and find the best albums of the year. Sat 17 Apr – Philly Invades Baltimore Fest

On April 17th, as part of a weekend vacation to the Baltimore and Washington DC area, I went to the Charm City Art Space to see Philly Invades Baltimore Fest. It was a festival that featured Emo/Indie/Screamo bands from Philadelphia, and the surrounding area. I was extremely excited. The only band I had seen before was Storm the Bastille, and they put on a good show. I hadn't heard all of the bands that were playing, but I had heard most of them.

Emo is a tough genre to nail down. Its sound can vary from poppy (Later Promise Ring) to avant-garde (Joan of Arc) to screamy and chaotic (Orchid). Despite its many sounds most fans of the genre would say ‘you know it when you hear it’. Ethel Meserve was the name of a store on Allen Street in downtown State College, PA run by a woman of the same name. She ran the store for several decades selling various knick-knacks, home furnishings, lamps, candles etc. In the early to mid-90's, shortly after the band formed, she stopped running it herself when she became too old to manage her business.
