Era, E.S. Posthumus and Moby's New Albums!

1 IV 2008, 17:30

Oh yes, my #5 most played artist Era (2,934), #8 E.S. Posthumus (1954), and Moby, who now sits at #23 with 802 plays have all released new album recently, and I got a hold of them.

Firstly, I was ecstatic to learn (via E.S Posthumus' page on last.fm of course) that they released a new album (Cartographer) months ago! So I quickly downloaded, and got listening. First impressions? First CD with that lady singing is very unlike the E.S. I loved. Second CD was more like it, but to date only 4 songs I consider good. They are Oraanu Pi, Mosane Pi, Isunova Pi, and Raptamei Pi.

Fyi, E.S made it to my #1 spot for the week ending Mar 30, with 136 plays.

Era's album Reborn is slated for release soon is again another New Age album I think has too much pop influences. Previous Era works (Era and Era 2) were a great mix of dance, and Gregorian vocals, this release is more pop with a smaller dose of the above mentioned. The few favourites are Sinfoni deo, Reborn, Come Into My World, and finally Last Song.

Era placed 9th on last week's charts with 22 plays. No doubt there will be a greater showing on this week's charts.

Last, but certainly not least, Moby's Last Night (incidentally, it's official release is today Tuesday April 1) is, unlike the other albums, not a disappointing one.

I must say, that I love albums 18 and Play especially by Moby.

Let's run through the track listing, shall we?

1. "Ooh Yeah" - 5:18

Nice start to the album. Not a favourite so far, but not a skipper. 3/5

2. "I Love To Move In Here" - 4:45

I love the fake audience, a technique Moby used in I'm Not Worried At All, a favourite of mine. 4/5

3."257.zero" - 3:38
Upbeat track, 4/5

4. "Everyday It's 1989" - 3:40
This is the track that stood out the first time I played it. It's damn good, lyrics? Something along the lines of "Everyday I got to go through (screaming)". It's damn good, and as I said in the track's shout-box here on last.fm, it's the Moby I love. I've played this song (according to Win-Amp 50 times, last.fm been stingy with the play updates, so we'll see soon enough the track's total). 5/5, you have to hear this song!

5. "Live For Tomorrow" - 4:02
Sang by a female (like previous track), this up-beat song actually has more lyrics through. 4/5. Good song.

6. "Alice" - 4:27
Was never a fan of this song. Just never grew on me. 3/5

7. "Hyenas" - 3:35
Hotelesque, not my cup of tea. 3/5

8. "I'm In Love" - 3:43
Slightly better than the previous track. Starts off slow (in terms of quality, but gets better with time) 4/5

9. "Disco Lies" - 3:23
Good track, but personally I don't know why it's currently the highest charting new track for Moby on Last.fm. 4/5

10. "The Stars" - 4:21
Another fake audience track. "Can you believe it?" 4/5

I'm not sure what's happening with the last couple of tracks. No lyrics, very ambient. I'll have to keep playing them to like them more. So for now they're kind of "bla"?

11. "Degenerates" - 3:58
12. "Sweet Apocalypse" - 5:19
13."Mothers Of The Night" - 3:19
14. "Last Night" - 4:53

Hi! Do you happen to know the original lyrics of Hymne? Cause in the Internet two versions can be found and many of us are confused which one is the right one.

Thank you for a thoughtful review of all these albums.

I am not familiar with Era but I definitely will check out their previous works.

I love E.S. Posthumus for I 1st learned about them here on last.fm by my last.fm friend, Lorddream, who got me so hooked.

Though I know many people did not care for the female voice in Cartographer, I LOVE it. I enjoy opera, musical theater and dramatic clutch wrenching soft voices to express grief and despair. That's why I love Luna Sans voice. I know not too many people fit into this category of musical taste in voices but that's just my quirky and wacky way of how I express my loneliness by listening to Luna Sans.

I loved Moby's, "Play" album but I haven't heard, "18." Thanks for the recommendation on that.

I'm ROFLMAO on you sharing the "fake audience" technique that Moby has used. I'm going to have to get this album just for what you said by that. I'm cracking up.

I love your sense of humor.

Stay sincere & keep on writing.
