Time for another end of the year journal.
My most played artists of the last 12 months
1. The Ark, 1,588 plays
2. The Wildhearts, 1,219 plays
3. Michael Monroe, 655 plays
4. Lykke Li, 547 plays
5. Ennio Morricone, 508 plays
6. Motörhead, 475 plays
7. Summoning, 448 plays
8. Garbage, 429 plays
9. Reckless Love, 418 plays
10. Hanoi Rocks, 408 plays
My year of 2011 was dominated by The Ark. I saw them live five times during the year and all the gigs were among the best I've ever experienced.
The Wildhearts kept rising up the charts, boosted by an amasing gig by Ginger in December.
I also managed to see the Michael Monroe band live one more time with Ginger on board.
Another high point of the year was finally seeing Motörhead live a couple of weeks ago. It made my life so sweet, especially the killer triple combo of Orgasmatron, Going to Brazil and Killed by Death.
Then there's Summoning who I very unexpectedly rediscovered this Autumn after watching They're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard a few times too many…umm, which made me sort of recall my old love for all things Tolkien.
I've never watched as many films as I did in 2011. Lately I've been immersed in Westerns and Morricone's spaghetti western soundtracks.
My most played songs of the last 12 months
1. Superpowered Superfly, 136 plays
2. Deliver Us From Free Will, 95 plays
3. Breaking up with God, 82 plays
4. The Apocalypse is Over, 78 plays
5. What the water gave me, 74 plays
6. There Is a Light That Never Goes Out, 72 plays
7. Killed By Death, 70 plays
8. I follow rivers, 68 plays
9. Rolling In The Deep, 67 plays
10. Lies of the Beautiful People, 66 plays
There’s a lot of new music here. Florence’s lead single from her new album is amazing and addictive, as is Lykke Li’s I Follow Rivers. The second Sixx:A.M. album wasn’t as good as their first but Lies of the Beautiful people is a great song. Adele is a new discovery for me. I love her voice but I don’t really like most of her songs, Rolling in the Deep being a notable exception. The song of the year is Superpowered Superfly, yet another little masterpiece by Ginger.
My most played albums of the last 12 months
1. Sensory Overdrive, 608 plays
2. We are the ark, 330 plays
3. wounded rhymes, 329 plays
4. This Is Gonna Hurt, 296 plays
5. State of The Ark, 281 plays
6. Born this way, 271 plays
7. Earth vs. the Wildhearts, 230 plays
8. Prayer For The Weekend, 209 plays
9. Kun valaistun, 206 plays
10. In Lust We Trust, 205 plays
I knew already in March that Sensory Overdrive was going to be my album of the year. I expected it to be a great album but it still managed to exceed my expectations by a mile. A perfect rock album if there ever was one.
I like Wounded Rhymes much more than Lykke Li’s debut. It sounds like she has found her voice as a musician.
Chisu’s latest album contained a couple of great songs but overall it was a bit of a disappointment. As was Sixx:A.M.’s This Is Gonna Hurt which is by no means a bad album but pales in comparison with Heroin Diaries Soundtrack.
Meanwhile, Born This Way is a rather bad album by Gaga’s standards. There are some pretty nice songs but mostly it’s just boring.
