Because I was randomly thinking about this while listening to Refused.
1) The Deadly Rhythm By Refused
-Jazz breakdowns, start-stop guitarring, pounding drums, absolute perfection
2) I'm Back Sleeping Or Fucking Or Something By Moss Icon
-Haunting spoken word/scream vocals, strange lyrics. This is actual Emo.
3) Stuck Pig by Glassjaw
- Aggressive, violent, chaotic. Awesome post-hardcore without being generic.
4) Reaction by From Ashes Rise
-Brutal yet melodic Crust. Would make the average Anti-Flag/Unseen fan cry.
5) Police Truck by Dead Kennedys
-Classic hardcore punk…with surf rock licks? Somehow Jello and crew pull it off
6) Generation Lost by Rise Against
-Example of quality, original melodic hxc from a band during their prime
7) Billy by Bad Religion
-Epitome of old school BR. Fast, melodic, and lyrics with meaning
8) My Judgment Day by Ignite
-One of my newer favorites. Powerful vocals, great energy
9) The Rip by A Wilhelm Scream
-Ultra aggressive, fast melodic hardcore. Inventive song structure, never gets old
10) Too Close Too See by Strung Out
-The definition of punk urgency for me. You can't not want to sing along to this.
Disclaimer: Yes I'm fully aware I'd get torn to shreds by this list by actual 'punx' citing the lack of: Black Flag, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Circle Jerks, Descendants, X, The Germs, Suicidal Tendencies, Dag Nasty, DRI, Misfits, Adolescents, Fear, blah blah blah etc etc etc. If I wanted a list that looked like every other list, what would be the point of doing this?
