As for the promoting, it's been frustrating. I set them with a couple of shows at some really good clubs in Portland and got them and opening slot w/ a textbook tragedy last month. But since then they've been having problems commiting to any gigs. I work w/ a couple of promotional agents that keep throwing shows at me but I have to keep turning them down cause one member of the band keeps coming up some stupid reason why he can't play. With any band I've ever been in or involved with, it's always been one guy who can't keep his shit together.

I've been pretty disappointed w/2010 so far as well. Minus The Bear let me down w/Omni. I find it boring and uninventive. With the exception of a couple of songs, the new Deftones, and Dillinger albums drag too. I was expecting [artist]Khoma[/artist]'s new album to be awesome, but it wasn't. So was the new [artist]Red Sparrowes[/artist] album. On the other hand though, the new [artist]Medications[/artist], [artist]Murder by Death[/artist] and [artist]Portugal. The Man[/artist] are great indie rock albums. Also good instrumental (post rock) albums by [artist]These Monsters[/artist], [artist]Ef[/artist], and [artist]Afformance[/artist] this year. My list of stinkers is way longer than my list of winners.

Hi, I saw Crazy Heart last night and I thought it was great. Quite a simple story really but I loved the music of course, especially the one he played in the bar after he had sobered up, called Brand New Angel. I think that was my favourite.

Hey thanks. It was great starting with Justin Townes Earle on my birthday eve and then a very nice dinner with my man at the Carlisle Wine Bar.

Great, I'm glad you watched it. That's a good way to describe it too. I'm planning on watching Crazy Heart next weekend. I'll let you know what I think. Hope you're having a good weekend.

I will watch them both soon and let you know what I think. Yes The Road.......fantastic movie but one of its 'happiest' moments would be considered sad in most other movies. Definitely watch it though ~ beautiful cinematography and of course the music by Nick and Warren...

You're playing one of my faves! And no I haven't seen Crazy Heart yet...crazy. Two movies I have seen recently that I loved are The Road ~ hard going but worth it and A Single Man ~ just beautiful in every way. Have you seen either of those?

I actually decided not to join that band. They wanted me to play keyboards and share vocal duties but I'm more of a drummer not a keyboardist. They already have a badass drummer. But I became their manager/booking agent and have been getting them shows in Portland. I'm trying to get them an opening slot on a Textbook Tragedy show that's happening here next week. They're looking for a local opening act to play.

Oh of course it was Magic Man! I have never listened to any Heart other than what you hear on the radio. I do like both of those Heart songs though. It's funny how Neko never really makes much of an effort with her appearance unless its a publicity shot and then she looks incredible. Even when she plays live, it looks like she just got up.

I had not heard Roscoe before so I downloaded it ~ it's great. You'll probably hate me saying this but it reminded me of that Fleetwood Mac song Rhiannon! And as for the song Neko chose to sing, it was an appalling version of Barracuda!

Oh I love the new Midlake especially the first song Acts of Man and Rulers Ruling all Things ~ I suppose the red love hearts give it away! I'm listening to it as I write this. It's definitely worth investing in. If I could give it to you I would. Have you seen the Neko Case episode yet? Other than a couple of instances of momentary laughter, I thought she was a bit flat and mostly disinterested ~ I don't know, perhaps she didn't get some of the Australianised jokes ~ they were a bit lame anyway.

I bought the I & love and you cd after your recommendation and after re-reading your top albums of 2009. Thanks! That is a very extensive reference.

Neko was fantastic as you'd expect, though I think I expect too much these days so I perhaps didn't enjoy the gig as much as I have in the past. She seemed to be a little on 'auto pilot' and not quite as inspired as usual. It was still great to see her again anyway.....though the 6ft 4" giants in front of me had a better view. You didn't end up going to see her again?

Shameless self promotion: Hey check these guys out http://spreadingneurotoxins.blogspot.com/2010/02/humans-humans-demo-2007.html. They just asked me to join & do vocals/percussion/keyboards. Here's their older demo. Please tag as "TheHumans" (one word). I started a last.fm page for us http://www.last.fm/music/TheHumans cause there are like 10 other "The Humans". Thanks.

After the first listen I wasn't as impressed as their other albums, it's less of the soft cool indie that they started off with and more of the experimental weirdness, some of the vocals were questionable as well. :P So did you get soulseek yet? I'll leave it on for you..

Thanks I haven't heard of She & Him but will definitely track it down as I trust your taste! I do like M.Ward. I've also been getting into the Lemonheads album of KILLER covers called Varshons. I've played it so much I will probably will kill it.

I probably could have found it in a store but I wanted the vinyl so I bought it with the order. There are some free songs here....http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/justin-townes-earle-hundreds-of-years-fly-out-with-that-wry-smile-concert/20030305-3737647.html. I've watched a couple of episodes of the wire but there are so many seasons now that it feels like a mountain of tv to watch!

http://www.bloodshotrecords.com/album/midnight-movies is where I got my copy. You can even still buy the vinyl version and they give you the digital download with it. I ordered 5 or 6 things to make the postage worthwhile. I love the vinyl copy of Viper of Melody.

As for JTE, his distinct and individual style crept though the obvious talent hailing from the stock we know well. Sometimes he sounded like his Dad, but mostly he didn't. I cant help but compare him, mostly because I am a pretty big Steve Earle fan. If I shut my eyes at some moments I could have sworn it was Steve. But JTE's unassuming presence, off beat shuffle and very distinct guitar style confirmed he was definitely a talent on his own. And he just loved playing there, even commenting that he had never sold so many tickets in one town on one tour before. He was pretty happy and so was I!

Well it was the most comfortable sold out gig I have ever attended.....in contrast to being jammed into an uncomfortably hot pub where they spray you with the bar hose in the hope punters don't start fainting. I didn't even realise that I had bought 3 tickets at a table right by the stage. Sitting in complete comfort with a clear view was a real treat. I usually don't even like sitting at gigs and have even been known to look down on others for doing so, literally. This time it just seemed to suit the grand style of the venue and the atmosphere in general. tbc......

The Pearl Jam show was great. I've always liked them. Probably a lot more when I was younger but I'd never got to see them live before. After all these years they've still got it. I also think the addition of drummer Matt Cameron has added a whole new element to their sound. He was responsible for writing a lot of Soundgarden's tunes back in the day. Very talented drummer as well as a songwriter.

If Sunny Day is playing at Soundwave you shouldn't miss them. They are a great live show even if you're not too keen on their music. If you're not too familar with them I must suggest their debut Diary & LP2 (The Pink Album). Must have indie rock albums. Let me know if you want them.
