Synthpop and electropop both have a problem in that they are sometime used to describe any popular accessible electronic music in general as well as to describe particular genres in electronic music. I can't say anything about electroclash and electropop in particular but synthpop is still an actively used genre which I consider relevant. Contemporary bands which I think are appropriately labeled synthpop would be Colony 5, De/Vision, Iris, Mesh, Psyche, Statemachine as well as traditional classics like Depeche Mode, Camouflage, Yaz, etc. I don't think that these bands sound particularly similar to either core electropop or electroclash bands though I couldn't say exactly why.

this shoutbox is full of pretentious posers who doesn't have a clue of what they're talking about, isn't that hard downloading larry tee's larry tee compilation which illustrates in a very accurate way what electroclash is. electropop is way slower and lyrics way sweeter, synthpop is an 80's thing so does new wave. spend sometime in some basic music site before talking crap with no sense :)
