First of all, that was one of the greatest days in my entire life. I had a great time, discovered new bands and brutally enjoyed Amon Amarth gig.
I have to say that all of the bands were so nice to the fans. They didn't even say no to us and were taken thousands of photos, signed autographs and did we what we wanted. First bands on the line weren't able to be watched by many guys because of the sun roaming on us. But I watched, though and found the chance to have an idea about what they play.
Despite these, I'm a little bit surprised that all of the groups (except 2 of them) have brutal vocals.
To talk as band-by-band;
Mosh Pit Project
First band was
Mosh Pit Project. they started testing 30 minutes before the exact starting time but still had technical problems during the gig. Musically, they weren't as good as I expected. Vocals were a mixture of clean and brutal and sounded distortioned. Additionally, there was a guy that was hardcore dancing during their gig. I still think that he was really close to feel faint but he managed to stay alive =)
Arsames
After them, it was
Arsames time. They were great... Simply great. Both characteristically and musically. I liked basses, the melody and vocals, primarily. And they were the nicest band to us. They didn't leave the place and were taken photos with their fans. One of the three or four groups I discovered yesterday.
Bilocate
Bilocate was the next band. they were also good musically, but had some technical problems like mosh pit project. during the fixing, bassist talked with us for a short time and said "Is it hot? Are you bored?", we said "Yeeeeah!". Later, he was angry and i think he tried to say "we came from a long road, fuckers! and you get bored! is that all?" or something like that. So stupid :D however, they were one of the good performers
Saits 'N' Sinners
Next group was the third best, I think. a heavy fucking metal band,
Saints 'N' Sinners. They were the first clean vocalled band of day. I'm suprised at first because Heavy metal genre is popular in Turkey but we dont have a lot of professional heavy metal bands. I especially appreciated their guitar solos. But like the other bands, they had some technical problems again. And there was a funny moment. The guitarist said "Raise up your middle fingers! Let's show them!", then there were lots of middle fingers (a.k.a .... you know :D) in the air.
Episode 13
As there were two to amon amarth, the next band was
Episode 13. They were too black metal, I think. They only had stage show, and nothing else. No good vocals, no guitar techniques... They were poor musically. Btw, the singer sounds like vomiting. =)
Firewind
And the second best band...
Firewind. They made us feel the power metal spirit in our veins and were maybe the most talented band in the festival. Two guitar virtuosos (and one of them was also playing keyboard, he was stunning in that, too =D), a great vocalist, a drummer that had a drum solo for 5 minutes and rocked our ears and a good bassist. Songs and genre were great, too. All enjoyed. Today, I will listen to them more carefully. They are a Greek band and had a good time with the metalheads. It's also a sign of improving neighbourhood and makes me glad.
AMON AMARTH
And the fucker headliners...
Amon Amarth... With Oden on our side, we are victorious. They were great, simply great. At the beginning, they were 20-30 minutes late because of the technical shit again. But, then they appeared on stage.. With screams and cheers. At the end of the first song (Twilight of the Thunder God) Johan said "İYİ AKŞAMLAR TÜRKİYEEE!!" (Good evening Turkey!), and you guess the rest of it =) He said "Teşekkürler" (thanks) at the end of every song and that always made me laugh. They mostly played the newest songs but setlist was great, though. All of the songs we had waited for were in it. There was a break in the middle of the gig. All of the fans thought the concert was over and everyone was unhappy. But then some blackbird voices start to be heard. Suddenly, johan screamed : "Have you heard the cry of the blackbirds!".
For the fans, they finished the gig with Death In Fire. It was great!
Shortly, we had a good time, and are waiting the rest of it next year. Metallica dreams? Why not =)
