El estilo es un rock progresivo-sinfónico-rayante del que tanto abundaba en aquella época. Casi todas las canciones siguen un mismo esquema: uno o dos minutos de canción digamos "normal", y a partir de un punto el ritmo empieza a variar, se ponen a hacer punteos, solos, etc., y así durante mucho rato. Aunque personalmente esas cosas me aburren bastante, hay a quien le encantan; si he de ser más o menos "objetivo", no me parecen malos.

Este Iron Maiden original comenzó su andadura en 1964 bajo el nombre de Growth, haciendo versiones de los Rolling Stones y de grupos de blues; tras varios cambios de nombre y formación, se quedaron con Iron Maiden y grabaron su álbum debut, Maiden voyage, en 1970. No se llegó a publicar porque la discográfica, llamada Gemini, quebró y se perdieron las grabaciones originales; en 1998 el álbum fue editado a partir de unas copias que conservaba el bajista Barry Skeels.
