När jag klivit ned i det där svarta hålet där ingenting längre har någon mening kan jag ändå ta på mig lurarna och omslutas av Esbjörn Svensson Trios musikaliska universum och ton för ton känna att, okej, om inte för någonting annat vill jag åtminstone leva för att lyssna mer på den här underbara musiken. Jag förlorar mig i den och återuppstår i en total närvaro där mitt enda anspråk på tillvaron är att lyssna till nästa ton och nästa och nästa. Det är som att tillvaron vänds ut och in, musiken blir kärnan och ursprunget till allt annat som i likhet med mig lyssnar. -

Es schneit in Köln und das leider nicht erst seid gestern. Insofern war der Gletschergang über Kölns spiegelglatte Straßen schon fast ein kleines Abenteuer zum Loft in Eherenfeld. Der kleine Konzertsaal liegt nicht, wie man meinen könnte, im Keller sondern hoch über Kölns Dächern im obersten Stockwerk eines alten Fabrikgebäudes. Dort luden Riaz Khabirpour und seine Gruppe zur blauen Stunde ein, um Ihre neue CD The Seeker vorzustellen. Es sollte warm werden bei Miles Davis ähnlichen klängen von Gitarre (Riaz Kahbirpour), Sax (Jens Böckkamp) und Piano (Pablo Held) , hervorragend unterstützt von dem ideenreichen Schlagzeuger Paul Wiltgen und dem Bassisten Matthias Nowak. Alle der Bandmitglieder spielen gleich in mehreren Formationen (z.B. Pablo Held Trio) und beherrschen Ihre Instrumente tatsächlich ausnehmend gut. Aufgewärmt wurden die Gäste, wie bereits erwähnt, mit Stücken, die Miles Davis' in Gitarrenform angehaucht waren oder auch dem Esbjörn Svensson Trio nicht fern lagen, mit inspirationsreichen Klangpassagen aus dem Schlagzeug oder aparten Zupf- und Klopfgeräuschen mit Klavier und Bass.
Khabirpour spielt seine Gitarre teils sehr abgepasst und bestimmt, zuweilen scheinen seine Finger so schnell über die Seiten zu springen, als laufe ein Tonband heiß, allerdings jederzeit sehr feinfühlig. Der Saxophonist betupft seine Tasten ebenfalls in Windeseile und improvisiert hervorragend die Melodien. Einige meiner persönlichen Favoriten des Abends waren die Lieder Hamburg 1 und Float, letzteres etwas ruhiger, auch auf dem vorgestellten Album zu finden.

Am Donnerstag den 04.02.2010 tritt im Studio 672 in Köln das
Stefan Schmid Quartett auf, eine Band in der ebenfalls Khabirpour und Nowak spielen. Ich lasse mir das nicht entgehen... -

Igor Butman. I have already been a jazz fan for a long time, and he comes from the same country I do (it's Russia). To him I started listening after he took part in the TV project "Stars on ice".
