Boise ID, Stany Zjednoczone (1992 – obecny)

Built to Spill jest amerykańskim zespołem indie rockowym założonym w 1992 r. w Boise, Idaho.

Założyciel i lider alternatywnej grupy Treepeople Doug Martsch założył Built to Spill wraz z Brettem Netsonem oraz Ralfem Youtzem. Po pierwszym albumie wydanym w 1993 roku pt. „Ultimate Alternative Wavers” skład bandu wymienił się: Martsch pozostał, natomiast Brett Netson oraz Ralf Youtz odeszli a na ich miejscie przyszli Brett Nelson (nie Netson!) oraz Andy Capps, z którymi powstał w 1994 album „There’s Nothing Wrong with Love”. W 1995 Martsch podpisuje umowę z Warner Bros. (co nie było dobrze przyjęte wśród innych indie bandów). Pierwszym albumem wydanym pod szyldem WB był „Perfect from Now One” z 1997. W tym czasie zespół tworzą Martsch, Nelson, Netson, oraz Scott Plouf. Po wydaniu albumu zespół ten stał się jednym z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych zespołów indie w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Przed wydaniem nastepnego albumu Martsch uczynił Ploufa oraz Nelsona stałymi członkami zespołu. Ostatnim nagranym albumem Built to Spill jest „There Is No Enemy” z 2009 roku.

    Most bands suck ass after an original member leaves, but two members? Plouf might not have been with the band since the very beginning, but he was on most of their albums so I'll count him. Built to Spill is now dead to me. Doug should just do solo albums from now on.
