For people who like (or love) 1996-2003 Nightwish and can't stand Tuomas'es complete sellout after this great period.

Even Century Child was a pure example of changing the band's music to attract the masses. Simpler riffs, worse vocal, less original than on previous albums. But that album is still acceptable, balancing on the edge. The real crap began with Once.
Seems that Tuomas wants to be "remembered as Oceansoul", by creating catchy, easy pop or mallcore (or whatever you want call his shit music after 2003).

His open letter to Tarja after the last gig with her, was just an awful promotion of their DVD, End of an Era. He and maybe label also have hurted other person's feelings in the purpose of promotion of that crappy DVD! This is unacceptable!

Once = mallcore + orchestra.
The use of orchestra was just to show off in front of naive kids, who think this way: "Wow they use a symphonic orchestra, they must be so great!". Completely unnecessary. Compositions are totally flat and empty (to be honest, Ghost Love Score is a little exception). Tuomas made better with just piano and keyboards.
The release of 2 crappy singles. Nemo. Simple guitarwork + crappy, catchy melody. The solo inside is ridiculous. WIHAA. Childish song with technobeat and childish lyrics.
Releasing other singles from this crappy album. It is obvious, that those songs absolutely don't fit for singles, but anything can be told to convince people to buy any crap.
The whole band was instructed by Tuomas to play artificially simple music. To attract masses and gain 100x fans Nightwish could have if Tuomas stayed with good music.
- Tarja is not using her natural voice. She sings more plain and in more ordinary way.
- Emppu can't show his guitar skills, because he has to play just simple rhythm and stupid solos. No real, metal riffs on this album.
- Jukka plays drums like... Well no comment needed. Just compare drums from Wishmaster to drums from Once.

And the last step so far in becoming a teen pop band is their latest album: Dark Passion Play. After seeing their crappy videos and Anette trying to sing Tarja's songs with her pathetic voice, no further comments are needed.

    Nightwish was awesome before Anette got in... now its pop Gothic music.... I believe that if they went on without a female vocalist it would have been much better... Anyway old Nightwish rocks the new one sucks. [2]

    Oceanborn and Century Child. <3 I can tolerate Once but DPP is a nope in my book. Might listen to a song or two but I just can't get into it.

    I don't hate new Nightwish, and listen occasionally. But the sound is completely different. They should at least go under another name! Anyway, I love old Nightwish - more than the new. The sound was deeper and the operatic vocals of Tarja were breathtaking.

    I really can't decide which one is my fav album. I really loooooooove Wishmaster but Century Child, Angels Fall First and Oceanborn are wonderful aswell. I think Tarja's voice was a bit weird in "Once" but I like some songs from that album aswell.

    Please pay attention to the description. The point of this group isn't primarily to hate on Anette (not saying she doesn't deserve it), but to lament the dumbing down and commercialisation of the band's music, which already started BEFORE Tarja got kicked out.

    Nightwish became much more accessible from Once, and it started from Century Child. The problem is that they became more melodic (not a trouble), worked less riffs, the guitars came in second, third plane behind his lyrics, orchestration (a great orchestration) and the image that Tuomas had created. With this the band lost some of its essence. And with the entry of Marco he took the vocal, and increasingly was showing that he was willing to stay at first. A fact that the last albums had much more duets.

    Haha, I think that's proof enough that Tarja is more versatile than people give her credit for :P Even though in my opinion, her talent is wasted when she holds back and tries to be a pop vocalist. I agree with you that the light-heartedness of classic Nightwish, and I also agree that Marco is REALLY overrated; Russell Allen does the same style much better, and Marco's style in connection with Nightwish's keyboard-dominated power metal simply jars. Nightwish tried to become more easy-listening and darker at the same time, which is a contradiction in itself and makes CC and Once unconvincing and in a way, fake sounding. Slaying the Dreamer is an excellent example how that doesn't work. It's like a boy throwing cotton candy and pretending to be a brutal warrior at the same time. I wish ffm bands would stop pretending to be all dark and heavy (the fake "goth" image) when the music is obviously rather light. It's so ridiculous.

    Yeah. People never think about Sami's dismissal being anything, but that marked the point when Tuomas started changing - possibly for the worst. And I honestly never really like Marco's vocals. One other thing that I liked about classic Nightwish was that their imagery was dramatic and epic, but it wasn't heavy or gloomy. They still maintained this lighthearted vibe. Even if they didn't bring in Marco as a vocalist - Tuomas could have brought in pure death growling - the whole atmosphere just dissipated. Now there was this seriousness lingering about, especially after watching the music video for "Nemo", and bringing in permanent male vocals brought a harshness that wasn't suited for classic Nightwish. :( It's kind of funny, because when I first started listening to Nightwish three years ago, I actually did think that they had three different vocalists. :O
