cool jazz was a major development in post-bebop jazz. as early as in 1949 ( 60 years ago )
Miles Davis was seeking an alternative to the typical small jazz groups at that time and the
prominent bebop form. Miles' seminal album Birth of the Cool featured innovative arrangements
inspired by classical music and new instrumentation. the rest is history. cool jazz, the
californian school of west coast jazz, Chet Baker, Dave Brubeck, Stan Getz and others
opened new dimensions for jazz music that still last today. cool jazz is cool.
