It seems to be the Bento skin which causes the problems. I switched to the classic skin and now it is working fine.

XP, latest LFM Plugin, installed Winamp 5.5 yesterday, Big Bento skin

    Great work DoctorO :)

  • windows media player sucks

    XP SP2, latest Last.fm software, 3.0 GHz Pentium 4, 1 GB RAM.
been using winamp 5.5 preview 1 and 2. didn't use 3 because i didn't like the big bento. the problem started when i installed the final version, and just a few minutes ago i realized it was serious and not just a glitch that has happened mysteriously several times since last night (when i got the final 5.5).

now i'm stuck listening to radiohead on windows media player, thanks a lot :D

i really hope somebody fixes this soon..

You can just install winamp 5.35 again. You just have to delete the pluginfiles which give an error after the install of 5.35 (there where 2, you can see which one if you click on a link in the error message). After you remove those files you can use winamp 5.35 again.

That doesn't really solve any issues if you actually want to continue using Winamp for it's new UI/Bento theme

Nope that's true, but I have no need for the new skin and it's just until there is a solution. It's a lot better then using WMP imo.

You can use the bento skin without problems for the time being, just go back to 5.5 build 1568. Problem occurs only from 1600 to final.

  • Ok, so this is what I posted on the winamp forum last night (didn't know who's "fault" it was so I started there). They referred me to... well, here. I've been reading about everyone elses problem and I kinda feel its the same problem I have and yet not... Read and you'll know what I mean:

"Since installing 5.5 last night, for some weird reason, Winamp keeps skipping songs to send to my profile. I figured out that when you play for instance the second song in an album first (this song having been id3-tagged as no 2), that song comes up but NOT the song tagges as no 1! Example: I changed the playing order for Panteras album Vulgar Display of Power so that the first song in the list was song no 3, Walk. That was sent to my profile no problem, but when it had played the song thats tagged as no 1, Mouth for War, it didnt send it! Instead, it played through the song and continued to song no 3, A New Level, wich WAS sent to my profile! I then tried an experiment and played the song it had skipped, again, but this time putting it at the top of the song list (since it is tagged as no 1) and now it worked. Weirdness! I've noticed this problem in several other albums so far.

Does this make any sense? Im aware that my problem is kinda hard to describe, but I hope someone gets what I'm trying to say."

    Any at all help appreciated!

In a way it makes sense because it's not limited to the second song in every album. I listen to alot of artists and it seems that when using the Bento skin, every second song is skipped, that still happens when using the Classic skin but not as often. And then sometimes it skips more than that even when using the Classic skin.

Passion just doesn't happen, you make it grow.

I couldnt believe some posts here, that this problem occurs because of the new bento skin, so I tryied to switch back to classic skin (then restart the winamp) and suprisingly it works now without any problem.

  • thats bull. its something the last.fm plug-in needs to fix. im suprised it hasnt been yet.

    My problem:

Thats indeed bull. I switched back to the classic skin, from Bento, and its still messed up.

Btw, wich plugin are you guys using?

  • don't know if this will complicate things...

I'm running XPSP2 and Winamp 5.5 (not a fresh install)

The majority of my library is ogg vorbis, a minority is MP3/M4A. I noticed that when playing MP3s, tracks got scrobbled normally. Vorbis, on the other hand, no luck. Haven't tried M4A.

After testing a bunch of mp3s (my library is also Vorbis).. Same here.
    Hmm...
Edit: Still seems to miss a track or two when advancing thru the playlist. But Vorbis doesn't seem to work AT ALL.

  • where can we find 5.5 build 1568?

It is weird. This problem occures when i play some of my artist (not for all) in the new Bento skin.

Back to classic skin, everthing works fine.

--> Bento skin is the problem!

    Really weird!

    Okay here's the deal:

Yesterday evening I noticed that Winamp had released new version (being 5.5). So I downloaded and installed it. After a short while I noticed last.fm not scrobbling my songs anymore. So I thought there might be a problem w/ my new winamp version. Then I tried listening and scrobbling with foobar2000 (0.9.4.4.) but it still didn't work. Now I've uninstalled, removed and installed all winamp, foobar2000 and last.fm client couple of times and it still doesn't work. I've also cleaned register and deleted all the plugins from folders. Now I've older Winamp 5.35 and last.fm client once again installed and still it doesn't show a signs of life. A client itself shows scrobblingbar but after the song scrobbled and appeared in recently played it still doesn't appear into my profile in www.last.fm..

Does anyone have any idea about this?!

I have this same problem.. MP3 scrobbles fine, Vorbis does not.

I'd be more apathetic if I weren't so lethargic.

well inbetween fixing my water heating and some other must do diy, i've not been able to repro consistantly the skipping of mp3's on any of my machines with bento in use against what i managed to see on friday which is annoying (well from trying to find/fix a bug it is, heh)

i've also tried it out with some ogg files i transcoded from my mp3 collection (i know it's bad but it's the quickest way to get test files without getting out of bed to get the original cd) and the result was that it constantly fails to work with those files so i've got something definitive to work with now (which makes my life easier). just be patient on having this all working again especially if it is a winamp core issue (either way i'll try to get some code which will work for people irrespective of the client version in use)

  • I have the same issue. I upgraded from Winamp 5.0 straight to 5.5, no betas or intermediary builds. I have tried installing the old-style plugin in both general and media library mode, and have downloaded the Last.fm client and used their plugin. In all instances the issue is the same as already described here.

Turning off cross-fading seemed to work at first but then the issue came back after a couple songs so I think it's probably just co-incidental. Going back to the classic skin HAS worked though. By classic, that means the old Winamp 2 style skin, not the "modern" default skin. Bento and Modern both have the same problem, as do other 'modern' skins like CountCapsula and MXP_Rainbow.

MP3, OGG and FLAC all seem to work fine under the classic skin.

    I'm running WinXP, 2Gb RAM, WinXP SP2, Winamp 5.5
I was using the 1.1.10 Audioscrobbler plugin, installed 1.1.11 no help, currently using the Last.fm client 1.3.2.13 with official Winamp plugin 2.0.45 if any of that helps at all.

For now I'm content to just use the classic skin. I keep Winamp minimized most of the time anyway.

Intelligence is only a state of mind.

    Same here

I think their are enough people weighing in here, but yeah scrobbling isnt consistent with winamp 5.5, and It does not seem to care whether im playing MP3's or FLAC.

  • last fm should do an update

Winamp works fine but with some changes in code last fm doesn't pick up on song change. They should publish new plugin for winamp simple as that.

For what it worth: some people that have upgraded to Winamp 5.5 have a problem. Some people don't.
To me that looks like something that is wrong in Winamp... if only because there are enough people (including DoctorO in first instance) that seem to have no problem.
As long as it is not determined where the problem lies exactly it is fairly hard to say who has to do the patching.
