iPod Scrobbling just doesn't work at all

  • iPod Scrobbling just doesn't work at all

Listening with iTunes works absolutely fine, but anything I've listened to on my iPod just will not scrobble
Whenever the app starts up there's usually a speech bubble that pops up saying that it's preparing for iPod scrobbling and that I shouldn't connect my iPod yet, then a second one will pop up a bit later saying that it's ready and iPod scrobbling is enabled, but for a while now that second speech bubble hasn't been popping up, which to me suggests that there's something wrong with the app
Server's working fine, so is everything else, and I've tried uninstalling, deleting the residual files and then reinstalling again twice now and nothing's changed.
FAQ and sticky threads haven't helped either since there aren't any error messages anywhere. The only notable thing I can say that might help is in diagnostics > iPod scrobbling, when I click scrobble iPod something like this comes up:

    Twiddling device: UNKNOWN
    ...
COM error: Failed to get hold of iTunes instance via COM
    Result code: E_NOINTERFACE
    ...
Fatal error: Failed to get hold of iTunes instance via COM

There's other stuff too but I can't copy+paste so that's just some of the serious sounding stuff

    Same problem, different OS

I'm having the same difficulty getting any iPod scrobbles at all. I'm running the scrobbler on Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and scrobbling directly from the iTunes program works just fine. But last.fm won't even acknowledge my iPod as a known device under the preferences dialog, and no amount of plugins will help. Could it possibly have something to do with the nearly brand-new version of iTunes (10.5.3)?

  • I'm getting same issues, would love to know how to resolve this

<<all my body parts are one, as lightning strikes my spine>>
  • Just to add, I have iTunes 10.5.3.3 and Windows 7. A lot of what I've been reading is in relation to Macs and Snow Leopard or Lion, and since I don't have those I don't really understand much of what's being said (since I'm not very techy at all tbh)

  • I'm also having an issue similar to this. Plays from my iTunes are showing up fine but the last four times I have tried to synch my iPhone my scrobbles haven't shown up.

Same problem here, Mac user btw.

  • Working for me now. Anyone else?

  • I've only just joined and no ipod scrobbles so far. How do I get it to work?

  • I was having the same issue but find that I have to open iTunes first then connect the iPod. It will sync as normal (if iTunes automatically manages) and will pick up your scrobbles.

Mine actually works now, seems all I needed was to restart the computer...

  • So... is anyone from Last.fm gonna address this issue at all? Or is this just gonna be yet another thread that slowly dwindles into obscurity without any kind of solution offered

I honestly don't think this will ever be fixed. The client hasn't been updated since late 2010 and one thread in this section addressing the issue was started in 2010 and is still somehow alive now.
It's ridiculous, I know. I'm still actively trying to find a fix. Sometimes my scrobbles work when I choose to scrobble manually, but most of the time they don't.

  • Same problem here, and I'm afraid this won't get solved.

  • i have the same problem of my scrobbler not recognizing my ipod. under known ipods theres nothing there. it worked when i had my previous laptop but i recently just got a macbook and i have not gotten my ipod to scrobble since.
