Events - What happened to them on the new Last.fm?

  • Event Listings page problems

I'm trying to browse the event listings, but it seems impossible to see more than the first page. Clicking on Page 2 or next page doesn't seem to do anything. The only alternative is jump to Another Date, but then you can't browse anything besides the first page on that date either.

The dranouter line-up order is all weird (a 9-listener band is the headliner, Suzanne Vega is at the bottom of the list).
Known issue, check the read-me-first stickies in the website support forum.

AARGH! How do you change the recommended event location in this new horrible system? All I get is recommended events in Paris, but I want to change it to London. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I have been everywhere on the site and can't see how to change this now... USELESS

You can now change your location again from http://www.last.fm/events or http://www.last.fm/home/eventrecs

something no one seems to have mentioned: can the events have little artist thumbnails associated with them, as before? i find it easier to look at a page and spot familiar pictures than names.
It really seems like whoever was responsible for the new design had a total hate on for image quilts and the like, and was dead set on eliminating one of the few visually distinctive things about the site wherever they could be found.

I always thought the image quilt posters for events looked cool.

I believe most of the critical known issues I outlined earlier in the thread are fixed. I've gone back and struck them off the list:

Let me know if any of that stuff is still an issue.

Location won't change for me. Recommended events are fine - well, actually, there's a distinct lack of them, only three shown. Perhaps that's because as far as I can see there aren't any events relevant to me which I'm not already attending, but almost none of them were shown on recs before I selected that I was attending either, despite me having a fairly significant number of plays (I'm talking about three-figure playcounts) for some of the artists. They're all in Liverpool, though, so the location's correct even if it seems to be ignoring some events.

But on the /events page in the header it refuses to change, it doesn't matter how many times I try to change it to Liverpool, whenever I leave the page and come back later it will show me London events again. I've repeatedly clicked the 'set your location' button and typed "Liverpool, United Kingdom" into the box, then clicked 'set location', and it tells me "Your location is now set to: Liverpool, United Kingdom", but it doesn't seem to do anything.

That's what happens in Firefox (3.0.1). I just tried twice in IE7 with my 'testfromabove' test account and instead of the OK message when I try to change was redirected to http://www.last.fm/user/testfromabove/setlocation with the text

{"success":true,"data":{"result":{"id":"19","type":40,"name":"Liverpool","url":"\/place\/United+Kingdom\/Liverpool","country":{"id":"228","type":26,"name":"United Kingdom","url":"\/place\/United+Kingdom"}}}}Opening the /events page still just shows events in London (though when opening the 'set your location' box it has "Liverpool, United Kingdom" already set, so it does seem to have been successful (as also indicated by that message). All javascript and such is enabled, I'm having no problems with the rest of the site (adding tags, for example), but I'm completely unable to set the location here. Or rather, I can set the location, but it doesn't change anything. (In case anybody's about to suggest doing a hard-refresh, I already tried that)

Nice to see that "Added by: ..." is back.
A thing I forgot about: In the old Last.fm it was also possible to click "All events added by..." or something like that. I know the page is there (http://www.last.fm/user/[username]/addedevents), but there should be a link somewhere...

    Cheers,

I just fixed this IE issue and it should go live tomorrow morning or tonight if you're lucky.

/events is still in need of a lot of improvement. I've fixed a few of the issues you described in development but there's a chunk of other stuff that needs to get sorted out too. Can you still search for events in Liverpool by typing it in?

Yeah, it's only the 'set your location' thing which isn't working for me, I can still get the events by searching.

    Another little event error:

At http://www.last.fm/home under 'Upcoming Events' it says I'm going to a concert today at 12 AM - the time is not correct, the event is at 10 PM (and is correctly set to 10 PM at the event page (http://www.last.fm/event/572083).

    Have a great weekend.

    Order of my events pages

When I go to my own events page from the tab on the left it goes to those for 2006 first. It ought to show the most recent first.

I did a quick search and didn't see this mentioned as a known issue.

  • Browse events by when they were added

Any chance of this feature being implented? I live in LA and I have to search through at least 30 pages of events to see if there's anything new. Is there a way to maybe take up the number of events listed per page when browsing?

    * Lineup ordering. At the moment we automatically order an event's lineup by their popularity on Last.fm. We're aware this isn't ideal and often leads to incorrect lineups, but the solution (manual ordering) is a longer term fix.

I think putting back the option of setting and changing headliners from the event edit page would be a good start!

Also, there is a bug in event descriptions where it ignores the space(s) after clicking the "Read More" button. Please fix that!
