    Generate playlist from tag?

Hi, is there any tool or way to convert songs that I've tagged with some specific tag to a separate playlist?

this isn't exactly what I meant. I wanted to create a real playlist from the tags' song list that you have given as an example.
Since I'd like to convert it later to a grooveshark playlist with this tool - http://groovylists.com/

Doesn't the 'Export Tag' button give you the file you need? (xml or tsv options)

omg all these letters. I see.
    XSPF
    XML
"...A great many programs use XML files both with and without XML extensions."

So, does nobody know why Groovylists can only look at lastfm playlists, not tags ; or why lastfm doesn't have the option of exporting an .xml file which it might(?) read?

As you already pointed out with your links, XSPF is in fact an XML format. It's maybe not the same format that iTunes uses (I can't say one way or the other), but all in all it's a pretty widely used one.

As for the main question, I would suggest asking the groovylists developers about how it can be done, or why it's not possible. From what I see they can import Last.fm playlists, and afaik that's nothing else but a XSPF list either.

I was wondering if simply renaming .xspf to .xml would work. Since it's still xml, right?
So i tried import it as a itunes xml playlist, but I can't cause I got this error:

Ouch! We just ran in to a rate-limit wall. This a technical error rather than a user-generated error. The tech-monkeys are on it (read: negotiating with Grooveshark to raise the limit), please try again later.

i hope it's indeed just temporary, but while it's still up: could you see if it's going to work on your side? I mean, uploading a renamed .xspf to .xml?

bengt_bangt , good idea. i did what you suggested and wrote to groovylist developer about that.

  • I just googled a bit, and it seems the iTunes doesn't accept XSPF playlists at all, their native format is called .pl - can anyone confirm that?

here's a possible way to transfer xspf to pl (and the other way around), I haven't tested it yet though.
