    For many reasons it's a good thing I don't write music reviews for a living. One reason is that I'm very slow even to post the reviews of the few shows I see. At this point, instead of trying to catch up with individual journals about each performance that gets more and more distant in my memory, I'll just do thumbnails from the last year or so, then promise to do better in the future.

    About fourteen months ago, I saw a somewhat updated revival of the musical "Oklahoma!" and enjoyed it thoroughly. It was the keystone show in the reopening of Arena Stage, a respected local theater venue that was recently renovated. Particularly noteworthy were the mixed-race cast and the standout performances of the actors in the support roles of Judd Frye and Ado Annie. The show was so popular that it sold out almost immediately and was brought back for another run in the summer that also sold out quickly.

    A few months after that I attended a concert of the Fairfax Symphony featuring a violin…
