Opis

BRIDIE JACKSON AND THE ARBOUR

“A wildfire of word of mouth” (Generator) has propelled Bridie Jackson & The Arbour from a cult following in the North East, to international attention, via a sell-out album launch show at The Sage Gateshead in January 2012.

Bridie has a unique voice “that despite its strength and power has a whisper-like quality that draws you in with its gentle intimacy and bewitching melancholy” (The Crack Magazine). Her voice and inventive guitar playing are complemented by ‘The Arbour’, a talented group of musicians who provide rich layers of vocal harmonies alongside combinations of cello, violin, percussion and bell plates. The range of instruments are used sparingly; “working up magic from seemingly simple elements” (Narc magazine), in a set which varies from the entirely a cappella to riotous, stomping bluegrass-tinged new folk.

The breadth of influences that can be heard in their music ranges from gospel music to flamenco, as well as the more contemporary echoes of artists such as Joanna Newsom, The Fleet Foxes and Feist. This is music that proves impossible to define, yet is ‘instantly engaging, through a sound that is variously glacial, ethereal and otherwordly’ (David White, Rock’ Reel Magazine)

BIRDENGINE

Birdengine is the musical project of Lawry Joseph Tilbury, whose unique music has been described by The Independent as 'beautiful, backwards weirdness' and by WARP Records as “an unknown supernatural force".

The 'The Crooked Mile' in 2011 was first full length album, following from the mini-album 'I Fed Thee Rabbit Water' (released on Drift Records in 2007).

UNCUT said “it whirls like a waltz for the dead - the results are unmistakable and unsettling"

HIAWATHA TELEPHONE COMPANY

Singer-songwriter, wannabe-band sort of thing, Hiawatha Telephone Company is named after a t-shirt, & a company that still exists. Rarely seen live, 13 songs are available as the album 'Harry Smith was my Father', recorded mostly in one-take on a single day at Peppercorn Studios, Brighton.

"Immaculate and reduced to the necessary core... the acme of intimacy in music" (Common Folk Meadow blog)
