Tír Na NÓg

Tir na nOg, the legendary alt.folk duo formed by Leo O'Kelly & Sonny Condell, return to the venue where they played their first ever London gig in the summer of 1970...The Troubadour, Earls Court.
The very next day after Sonny & Leo arrived off the boat train from Dublin, they trucked on down to the famous Troubadour with just two guitars and a pair of bongos. The club, run by the inimitable Martin Winsor & Redd Sullivan, immediately took the boys, just out of their teens, to its (coffee fuelled) heart. Al Stewart, already a major folk star, was at the gig, and was so impressed, would ask, some months later, if they would consider making it a trio!... They politely declined his offer, but became great friends.
Within two weeks of arriving in London Tir na nOg had secured a major record contract with Chrysalis Records. John Peel sang their praises, resulting in Tir na nOg playing the first of many Peel Sessions. That year,1970, they toured U.K. and Europe with Jethro Tull and Procol Harum, culminating in two shows at The Royal Albert Hall...not bad for two guys just off the boat! The secret was, of course, their timeless songs and captivating live shows. Exactly 42 years later (to the month!), old and new fans will have the opportunity to see Sonny & Leo play at the intimate club where they played their very first show as Tir na nOg.
