Daylight Music is a dazzling idea presented by the Union Chapel to open up their amazing gothic venue to a shiny new daytime crowd and provide a rather exciting platform for artists. Produced by Arctic Circle.

The Sea & I

“Folk-tronic” outfit - The Sea & I – began life when Irwin met Paul in a bar in Brooklyn in October 2011. Nothing too strange about the encounter til it transpired they live five minutes from each other near London’s Shepherds Bush. And shared the same parents. There operates an open door policy in the group whereby musicians add to the sound and the stage as each song merits. Layered vocal harmonies and acoustic timbres mix with an air of melancholia and an electronic presence to create songs that hang in the air like smoke in a nightclub.

Currently mixing an EP The Sea & I will take to the shores later in 2012.

Augmented Gamelan

The tentatively named Augmented Gamelan project has been created to find ways to combine Javanese tuned percussion with electroacoustic music. Through bespoke software and transducers attached to the instruments, traditional rhythms and melodies are broken down, extended and manipulated to form rich textures punctuated by deep gong-like tones.

The project is being developed by Charles Matthews, who has recorded bass-heavy electronic music as Ardisson on Seed Records amongst other labels prior to falling for gamelan. The five-piece ensemble put together for Daylight Music includes members of the Southbank Gamelan Players and centres around the unusual, delicate sound of the gendér (a bronze keyed instrument played with soft mallets) and traditional sung poetry.

Dan Armor

Dan Amor is from Dyffryn Conwy, North Wales. He records in the studio of Gorky’s Zygotic founder member John Lawrence, and his material has enjoyed airplay on BBC Radio 1, Radio 3 and Radio 6. He has appeared at The Marquee, The Garage and The 100 Club and gigs regularly in his native Wales. He also runs Cae Gwyn Records, and independent record label, specialising in alternative / psychedelic music. His mother, a retired commercial artist, did the artwork for The Kinks Golden Hour during the 70s.
