Opis

The Playing Fields celebrate the release of our new album with a launch show at The Lexington with super special guests Magoo & One Unique Signal. Ola's Kool Kitchen will be DJing.

The Playing Fields

"Ocean-sized and beguiling with a disaffected grunge snarl... gripping and poignant." (Vanity Project)

“What might happen if Lou Reed and H. P. Lovecraft met in a pub one dark and gloomy night and decided to form a band.” (Music4M)
The Playing Fields debut album ‘Hello New World’ garnered near universal rave reviews, seeing the band featured as Artist of the Month and Artist of the Year in magazines and on radio stations throughout Europe, the US and Oceania. Its “dark, ethereal soundscapes” (Islington Gazette) and “rare sense of depth, both lyrically and instrumentally” (NME) saw the band featured in the top ten of the John Peel festive fifty.

Recently signed to Patetico Records USA, The Playing Fields return to the scene with a new line up featuring Graham Bonnar (Swervedriver/Brian Jonestown Massacre,) to perform songs from their long-awaited new album ‘Hungry Ghosts’, weaving their “audio magic like a soothing spell.” (Blowback Magazine)

"Brilliant... tight, edgy, definitely worth seeing," (Rock Beat Stone)

Magoo

“Proof that you don't need a pad in Greenwich Village to make great guitar
records”. (NME)

Norfolk’s finest & Peel session favourites Magoo make a rare foray into the London gig scene to preview tracks from their forthcoming album 'The Continuing Adventures Of Magoo,’ scheduled for release on Studio 8 Records in Spring 2012. Not to be missed.

“The nearest thing Britain has to the labyrinthine. mutant DIY thinking behind The Flaming Lips and Guided By Voices”. (The Guardian)

One Unique Signal

"Bad ass, killer zoned out/zoned in synapse-frying head-rush mind-fuck trance" - Not for Resale, September 2011

Neuralgia / Hey Alchemist - double A side - is available now from thegenepool.co.uk

Villains to a Man was awarded Head Heritage’s album of the month, August 2009. “This 33-minute LP don’t outstay its welcome none, buzzing your synapses and collapsing your ego simultaneously, then sodding off with its dignity still so in tact that you the Listener have no other recourse than to give the thing yet another spin.” - Julian Cope

In February 2010 OUS hooked up with Stephen Lawrie for a brief UK tour, performing each night as both The Telescopes and One Unique Signal. The resulting chaos was documented in Aftertaste, A livid document. Recorded in pastpresentfuture tense and released on heavy vinyl in March 2011. In October 2011 the Signal reunited with Lawrie for a Telescopes tour of Italy, again supported each night by OUS.

Recently described by Dom Gourmley for Drowned in Sound as “an outfit making considerable waves of their own on the capital's psychedelia and noise scenes”, One Unique Signal are currently working on tracks for a forthcoming extended play release & recording new Telescopes material with Stephen Lawrie.

One Unique Signal began with a squall of feedback and tremolo for drums. In time new members, drums and vocals were added to the mix. The sound became more structured, edging away from drone and emphasizing repetition. Following the departure of drummer / vocalist Lee Barber and guitarist Ed Harding OUS resurfaced in 2008 with the current line up and a statement of intent in the Dismemberment EP where repetitious drums sat alongside wall of noise guitars, feedback, tremolo and ear piercing wah. Around this time “the live show developed the layers of guitar tones, noise washes and textures into a visceral experience that has been pushed further out into cosmic psych territory.” – Not For Resale, July 2009
